Privacy

In a few words, no beating around the bush.

We don't ask who you are

You don't need to register to use One Light. We don't ask for your name, email, or phone number. The page recognizes you between visits only through a small anonymous code saved in your browser (a technical cookie), which contains no information about you.

What we show to others

The prayers you choose to make visible in the Chapel or in the "Prayers" flow are shown without any name, completely anonymously. Only the number of people who joined an intention is public — never who did. The same goes for the moments of prayer (silence or reading) dedicated to an intention: only how many are shown, never by whom.

What your device remembers

Your browser also keeps two small preferences, only on this device: whether you turned sounds on, and the last tradition you read a prayer from (so you find it at the center of the sky of traditions). They are never sent to us and you can erase them at any time by clearing the site data in your browser.

You can delete your prayers whenever you want — but only from here

From the "My prayers" page you can remove an intention you created at any time. Once removed, it disappears from the Chapel and from "Prayers" and will no longer be reachable by any other user.

This works because your browser keeps an anonymous code that lets you recognize your prayers — but only on this same device and browser. Since there is no registration, there is no other way to link a prayer to who wrote it: if you clear your cookies, change device, or uninstall the browser, that link is lost forever, and we will no longer be able to help you identify or remove that specific prayer on request. This is the cost of anonymity: no one, not even us, can trace who wrote what.

For this reason, before writing something very personal you can decide to delete it right after, from the same device, if you'd rather it not stay visible over time.

Reports and moderation

If an intention is reported as inappropriate, a moderator may review it and, if necessary, hide or remove it. When an intention is reported for the first time, the moderators receive an email with its text, with no information about who wrote it or who reported it. Reports are used only to protect the community and are never shared publicly. Moderators may remove an intention at their sole discretion and without having to give a reason. If this happens to yours, please don't take it personally: it is not a judgment of you, and you can always light a new candle or join other people's prayers.

Technical data

Like any website, the server hosting One Light automatically records some basic technical information (such as the IP address) in system logs, for security reasons and to make the service work properly. These logs follow the server's normal retention policy (automatic periodic rotation) and are never cross-referenced with the content of the prayers.

Have questions?

If you want more information on how data is handled, you can write to us: advetrina@gmail.com. Please keep in mind that, since we don't keep any link between people and the content they write, we are not able to remotely identify or remove a specific prayer on request: the only way to do it is direct deletion, described above, from the same device used to create it.
